The urban district, Wijewo, has always belonged to Wielkopolska province although it is situated on the borderline of the Silesia and Lubuskie regions. In 1343 former terrains of the tribe called Obrzanie were joined to the region. The oldest traces of settlement are present along the lakes’ shorelines on the route Zaborowiec – Brenno – Wijewo. And the first mention of local settlement includes Brenno and the surroundings of forester’s lodge - Papiernia. The owners of the eastern terrains of present urban districts were in turn: the house of Junoszowie, Gryzynscy and Opalinscy. The last mentioned family added Wijewo to their property which used to belong to the house of Cystersi from Przemet. Furthermore, they also established the villages: Zaborowiec and Potrzebowo. At the turn of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries the terrains of the present urban district became the property of Leszczynscy and of Sulkowscy since 1738. Until the end of the seventeenth century, the Wijewo urban district belonged to county of Koscian, but in 1791 it was lost and joined to the Wschowa area. For almost 20 years it was under the Prussian annexation.
After the rebirth of the Polish state in 1918, the Versailles Treaty gave Poland the western part of the urban district. Thus Brenno, Zaborowiec and Miastko were included, but it left the rest of villages within German borders. They came back to the motherland in May 1920. Then the whole urban district was included in Leszno County. However, in turn, it was a part of Wschowa County, then Wloszakowice urban district to finally get its own council management.
Today, Wijewo urban district is located within the borders of Leszno County. The terrain occupies 6,137 hectares where 3,451 people live. There are 7 administrative village offices: Wijewo, Brenno, Zaborowiec, Potrzebowo, Miastko, Radomysl and Przylesie. Arable land constitutes over 70% of its area, forests – 16.2%, and lakes – 5.6%. The northeastern part of the urban district lies within the protected landscape - the Landscaped Park in Przemet. The whole urban district is the most beautiful of Wielkopolska’s region, especially attractive for tourism and rest. Because of this, agriculture is being mostly developed here, holiday resorts are created, and the authorities propose cycle tracks, walking paths or water tracks. In the urban district there are places to stay and to visit. There are places that one will come back to again and again. For investors, the council determined terrains for locating service and trade structures not troublesome for the environment, as well as building plots for housing development.
